Reviews for INTO THIN AIR

Publishers Weekly:
After centuries of protecting lost souls, modern-day earthbound angel Gawan of Conwyk is a month shy of retirement (into blessed mortality) when a new case drops in his lap, or, more specifically, onto the road to his ancient, spirit-inhabited castle. When he finds Ellie stumbling in the rain, she doesn't know who she is or how she got to the north of England; as it turns out, she's more dead than alive, a corporeal projection fluttering about betwint the living and the unliving. To help her, Gawan's got to track down her real body and solve the mystery of her near death, but he knows that once he saves her life, she'll forget him, a matter complicated by Gawan's discovery that she's his one-and-only soul mate. Miles's sophomore novel (following Spirited Away) is another sweet paranormal featuring a sparkling lead couple and a supporting cast of ghostly charmers. Gawan is brawny, charismatic and funny; Ellie is a worthy, witty damsel in distress, and the growth of their relationship (despite the foreordained outcome) is plausible and endearing. A welcome break from vamps, demons and werewolves, this adorable, otherworldly romp is sure to leave readers feeling warm and fuzzy. (Nov.)

Romantic Times:
Delightful new author Miles returns with another sparkling story filled with magic and emotion. Characters from Spirited Away return, adding to this tale's quirky nature. The cruel fate that threatens these star-crossed lovers adds poignancy to a magical tale.

Summary: After a thousand years, earthbound angel/guardian Gawan is finally getting retirement and a new mortal life -- if he can finish his final assignment. Gawan's last charge is a problem, for Ellie is hovering between life and death with no memory of what happened or where her body lies. The kicker is that Ellie is Gawan's intended soul mate, but if he saves her, neither will remember the other. Accepting she's mostly dead is just the first shock Ellie must overcome; the presence of a bunch of inquisitive ghosts is disconcerting. Time is of the essence as Ellie's life force is waning; they must unlock the mystery to her whereabouts. (SIGNET ECLIPSE, Nov., 336 pp., $6.99) HOT - Jill M. Smith

ROMANCE READER AT HEART:
RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: 4 Rose Read

I just love the ghostie/Angelic world Cindy Miles creates in her books! She combines the otherworldly dynamic with such humor and love, that I find myself smiling all through them. Honestly, I think Miles is channeling a bit of her inner Julie Garwood when she puts her pen to paper or fingers on the keyboard, whichever it may be. Anyway, you are doing yourself a serious disservice if you have not read SPIRITED AWAY and this delightful follow-up, INTO THIN AIR.

I enjoyed INTO THIN AIR because the characters are quirky and fun, but the plot at times is not. That makes for some unique and magical scenes. Though I would never say this is a light read, it does have the feel of the old school romance?despite all odds, everything will turn out okay. Add in the delicious hero and sweetly confused heroine along with their paranormal friends, and you have a book that makes you feel good, but stays in your mind long after it is over. A definite recommended read. - Shannon Johnson

Reviews for SPIRITED AWAY

From Booklist
Miles' debut is a charming tale that mixes best what readers enjoy in medieval fantasy and contemporary romance. The less-common ghostly theme will appeal to paranormal fans looking for variety, and the quirky, lovable characters will leave readers wanting to revisit the knights of Dreadmore Castle. ~Nina Davis Copyright © American Library Association. From Fresh Fiction
Cindy Miles has managed to take a very challenging conflict and turn it into one of the most sensual, seductive stories I've ever read. Tristan and Andi generate so much heat, without even being able to touch, that I worried the pages would burst into flames. With a very dark villain creating a sense of urgency, and a wonderful blend of humor and passion between the main characters, SPIRITED AWAY is a delight. Don't miss it! ~ Audrey Sharpe

"This is the most charming story I have come across is some time. It has such a wonderful plot, characters, setting, and dialogue, I eagerly await the next book. " ~ Shannon Johnson, RRAH Reviews

SPIRITED AWAY is an energetic amusing ghostly romance starring a likable intelligent mortal and a somewhat frustrated ghost. The paranormal story line grips readers once Tristan and Andi begin talking although she fears she is losing her mind. RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:Top Pick
What an absolutely wonderful book! It is so warm, engaging, sweet and funny, that I was SPIRITED AWAY by it myself!

I am still a bit burned out on paranormals, but SPIRITED AWAY is so different from the typical vamp/wolf stuff, that I have a hard time classifying it as such. Historical and/or Medieval romantic fiction is more to my taste. After all, it is set in a castle, and aren't all castles haunted?! If not, they should be. Anyway, my point is that I do not want the ghostly knights to scare you away from this one. It's romance at its best, so do NOT pass it by due to the haunting element.

Though the tale takes place in the here and now, the descriptive setting of the castle and its grounds gives the book the feel of a historical read. The characters add to that feeling, and I do not mean just the 13th century ones, via their speech and the close knit community they inhabit. I must say those characters are all perfectly done and make great companions to the wonderful place they are given to roam. I love them all. Even the bad ones!

The romance, however, is the show stopper. It is so bittersweet and romantic, that as much as I enjoy a book with a hot sex scene, I find I enjoy the actual relationship between a hero and heroine even more. I will say one other thing about the magical relationship between Tristan and Andi, because it is not like anything I have read before and would like to surprise you with it. I will give a clue, though: Ghost.

This is the most charming story I have come across is some time. It has such a wonderful plot, characters, setting, and dialogue, I eagerly await the next book. - Shannon Johnson, Romance Reader at Heart Reviews

Author: Cindy Miles
Title: SPIRITED AWAY

Forensic archaeologist Andi Monroe gets the chance of a lifetime when she is assigned to excavate Dreadmoor Castle where legends claims fifteen knights vanished without a trace seven hundred years ago. It does not take her long to discover that the knights are still there, "living" as ghosts, cursed to remain there forever, unless someone can be found to free them. In particular, one of them, their lord, Tristan de Barre, the Dragonhawk, fascinates her. She saw him once, years before, when his spirit helped save her life then vanished. Now, getting to know him is the most incredible thing that has ever happened to Andi. As their love blooms, however, the impossibility of the situation becomes apparent. Either Tristan and his men will remain ghosts and cursed, thus unable to touch Andi, or she will solve the riddle of their doom and they will depart this world and be at peace. Unfortunately, they are not the only ghosts around, and one remaining spirit is far from being a friendly specter.

**** I will agree with Julie Kenner's assessment; if you liked The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, this is a must read. Ms. Miles eloquently portrays an impossible love and the frustrations it causes both Andi and Tristan. My heart ached for them. The main protagonists are not the only stellar characters, though. All of the fourteen remaining knights and Tristan's mortal servant are equally engaging personalities. I definitely want to read more by this author. **** - Reviewed by Amanda Killgore, HUNTRESS REVIEWS
