I am fortunate to have been able to travel to the places I write about. Spooky castles, eerie moors, and breathtaking crags have all inspired me over the years. Researching my stories is half the joy of writing! Have fun browsing through some of my favorite photos and check out my Favorite Links at the bottom of the page!

These are the heather-clad hills of the Trossachs--Rob Roy country! Cattle reivers used to run their stolen herds through these hills. The legendary Rob Roy MacGregor was amongst them...

The Hinge! This place hums with mystical magic! Anyone who gets the chance to see this mysterious stone formation will walk away with a shiver...

13th century Urquhart Castle dominates the shores of Loch Ness. An eerie quiet surrounds the ruins, interrupted only by the steady lapping of the loch. If you stand silent long enough, you can almost hear the echo of steel against steel, or the haunting sounds of a lone piper...

This is one of my most favorite places in Scotland. Ardvreck ruins, near Ullapool. Jutting into the waters of Loch Assynt, Ardvreck was built by the MacLeods in the 16th century. Once a 3-story towerhouse, it's bloody history can be felt with each gust of Highland wind...

A dramatic Highland loch in the Spring. Selkies may lurk just beneath the surface of the water... |

Scotland's infamous Hairy Coos! It's so cool to see these long-haired beasts meandering around the crags and pastures, just like they did centuries before...

High atop a craggy cliff, Dunstanburgh Castle is now largely ruinous--yet another of my favorite places. Dating from the 14th century, it was protected on 2 sides by the sheer cliff face and the North Sea. It's been said that a lone knight sought refuge from a viscious storm within it's walls and was never seen again...

York, Northern England, is a fun, mysterious medieval town. The cobbled streets and tall row buildings takes you back to centuries long gone. On a crisp night, sign up for York's walking ghost tour, where you'll hear ghoulish tales of the sinister wrong-doers from long ago..

There's nothing quite like walking beneath the ragged jaws of a medieval portcullis!

I love 14th century Bodiam Castle in Sussex, England. It's ghostly image ripples in the smooth waters of the moat, and there have been some who've passed the ruins in the dead of night and swear to have heard sounds of spectral revels emanating from what's left of the ancient, weather-beaten shell...

Caerlaverock Castle is a 13th century fortress surrounded by a double moat and hundreds of acres of flat marsh willow woods. If you're there all alone you can hear the echoes of the past within its majestic stone walls...
Talk about Highland magic! Glen Coe in the breathtaking Western Highlands of Scotland is a mystical place that vibrates with lore and history. The bloody massacre in the Glen in wintry February, 1692, between the attacking Campbells against the unsuspecting Macdonalds still hangs thick within the great craggy walls...
